About the olive harvest at La Rogaia

Thank you for the great week

Thank you for the great week with you at the olive harvest. I really enjoyed it with you.

La Rogaia is an inspiring place for your guests, thanks to your hospitality.

Warm greetings to your team too, and all the best, especially a speedy recovery, good health and a good continuation of the olive harvest. Hopefully the harvest date will work out next year, then I'll be happy to join in again.

Liquid Gold

While looking through this guest book, I came across a picture of us from 18 years ago.

We have been coming to La Rogaia for over 20 years. The olive harvest is an integral part of our annual routine.

For us, it is like coming home, a place we´re familiar with.

As always, we find out on the first day which grove we should start in. As professionals, we already know how the picking is done...

Ladders, rakes and nets are ready. We go to the trees assigned to us and lay out the net. Now we comb through each branch with our rakes.

The olives tumble onto the net. Where my arms are not long enough, I climb into the tree. My husband is already standing on the ladder in the upper part of the tree.

When all the olives have been harvested, we put the net together, the first tree brings almost 3 boxes... a complete success.

The sun is shining, the view stretches into the distance to the surrounding hills with olive trees and the mountains in the background. There is something calming about being here, enjoying the peace and picking the olives.

After two days we drive to the mill. First pressing. We don't yet know how much oil there will be for everyone.

Only on Friday evening, after the second pressing, will the result be announced with the distribution of the oil.
Was it a successful harvest? Was the effort worth it?

We are rewarded with enough oil for this year. It still flows green into our canister and has a peppery taste. After a few weeks the liquid is clear and golden.

In terms of taste, no other oil can compare to it ...

Yes! We really enjoyed our time with you. We were able to harvest at our own pace, enjoy the landscape and visit Assisi and Siena. We already gave away the first bottles of olive oil.

We sincerely hope that you always manage life on the farm well at your own pace, so that the project remains full of life in your heart.

We liked our stay for the olive harvest very much

Olive harvest

We liked our stay for the olive harvest very much and would like to come back next year.

We all enjoyed the peace and the tranquility at La Rogaia.

Our oil was a perfect Christmas present in the family and we were asked to return to the olive harvest at La Rogiaa next year.

We enjoyed the view over olive groves and vineyards from the balcony of our apartment.

Our excursions in the area were fantastic.

We really enjoyed your beautiful grounds. The apartments are furnished with attention to detail.

I could very well imagine coming to visit you outside of the olive harvest, when the days are a little longer. Umbria is worth a trip and we didn't get to see a lot of things in such a short time.

I really enjoyed the little morning break with delicacies from the region and Wolfgang's anecdotes.

I also liked the fact that when we arrived at the apartment there was water, wine and coffee ready for the first morning. These are lovely little touches that you rarely find elsewhere.

The olive trees were probably not as lush as usual this year, because of the dry summer, but it was still fun and we learned a lot about olive oil, the different qualities and how it is made.

The visits to the olive mill were as interesting as they were entertaining.

Toasted bread drizzled with olive oil, grilled salsiccia and the expectation of what quantity and quality would come out of our harvested olives were an exciting topic.

The last evening, the 4-course menu on offer, the good mood among the pickers,... rounded off the week perfectly.

A wide variety of people from the most diverse regions of Germany and Austria, of all different ages, all had fun at your place during the week.

The weather was perfect too, we didn´t need our rubber boots and rain jackets.

So I'd love to go to the olive harvest again, to the painting course, to brush up on my tango skills or just as a nice stop to get to know Umbria better.

Thank you for everything

Thank you again for the good week

Thank you again for the good week with you.

Despite the relatively unusual and hard work, we could relax very well.

It was a new and great experience. And a great team too.
We are absolutely sure: we will be back.

We had a lot to talk about at yesterday's family celebration.

We wish you a good rest of the year.

Our most sincere greetings

My family loves the oil

Now I am back home for a while but the olive picking at La Rogaia is still on my mind.

My family loves the oil and it feels good to eat our own oil with some salt and toasted bread.

It is addictive. It was a great experience to accompany the olive from the tree to the bottle and I think it will not have been my last olive harvest.

The olive harvest, your property, life in the shared apartment, Umbria, still have an impact.

It was a wonderful, eventful time.

I will always remember this place! I wish you and your children a good time in your paradise.
