La Bastiglia, Spello
La Bastiglia is one of the most renowned restaurants in Umbria and our personal favorite! Here you can dine traditional cuisine with a touch of innovation. It is a gourmet restaurant, but without the often so annoying "minute" portions. You should try for example the gnocchi made from the local Colfiorito potatoes with a beetroot sauce, Roquefort and crunchy spinach on top. For main course we recommend the delicious lamb filet coated in herbs. Finish with a chocolate dessert with caramelised oranges, a dream ... The place is really affordable: a three-course meal like the one cited above is about 35 Euros. The "old school" waiters are pleasantly courteous and the view from the terrace is stunning.

Il Maniero, Assisi
You have to drive a bit to get to the old castle of Biagiano, just out of Assisi. The stately residence dating from the Middle Ages is now a hotel. The restaurant "Il Maniero" lodges inside the old buildings and has a secluded terrace with views of olive groves. They serve traditional dishes of the highest quality, such as the "Tagliata", the tender beef steak sautéed with no fat, then cut and drizzled with hot olive oil and lightly salted. It is served on a bed of crisp rocket. This is Italian "minimalistic cuisine" at its best. Just four simple ingredients (which must be of the best quality of course) make a fantastic dish. Hence when visiting Assis leave aside the tourist restaurants and instead take the little trip to Biagiano castle!

Dal Mi Cocco, Perugia
The legendary quaint restaurant is located next to the University for Foreigners of Perugia and is much frequented by students. There is only one menu for the fabulous fixed price of 13 EUR. You get several courses of delicious typical Umbrian dishes, until you surrender. Surely you will not walk out hungry! It is always full, a little noisy and chaotic but this is Italy...

Parco del Clitunno, Campello sul Clitunno
On a hot summer day, the wells of Clitunno between Assisi and Spoleto are an ideal destination. Ice cold water emerges from the soil and forms a bright turquoise pond, surrounded by a park with large shady trees.
Next door is a small trout farm with the restaurant "Parco del Clitunno". For who likes to eat fish, this is the place. Freshly caught trout and crayfish from the grill, with an incomparable "salsa verde". Accompany your meal with a lightly sparkling white wine. What more could one want! If you like, can also first catch your lunch with a fishing rod and then let the trouts be prepared for you.
